I know that there are some objections to this, but you could say, “Despite the ongoing adjustment in the housing sector, the economy appears to have grown at a moderate pace over the first half of this year and seems likely to continue growing moderately over the coming quarters.” You could make it one sentence—it is simple, it is shorter, and it reads better.
